Vit et travaille à Fiskars, Finlande.
Depuis plusieurs années, l’artiste finlandais Kim Simonsson crée des pièces en céramique floquées d’une couche de fibre de nylon d’un vert presque fluorescent. Inspirées par les contes de fées scandinaves, la culture manga et les jeux vidéo, ses sculptures représentent des êtres enfantins appelés Moss People. Ces personnages intrépides incarnent des réponses aux mises à l’épreuve des éléments de la nature, certains se transformant en sculptures de glace, tandis que d’autres, recouverts par la mousse, deviennent partie intégrante du monde végétal. Ne transportant que peu d’objets, tout au plus un sac à dos ou un compagnon de route animal, les nomades de Kim Simonsson semblent à leur aise aussi bien dans les usines Fagor qu’aux musées Guimet, Gadagne, Fourvière, Lugdunum, URDLA ou au macLYON. Les Moss People composent un univers aussi merveilleux qu’inquiétant, qui convoque la puissance du souvenir et l’imagination du public.
