“Everything is a question of space”. For over 20 years, Vincent Guillermin has been practicing painting, sculpture, installation and even performance art. “It's a way of looking at things, a way of militating, of inhabiting the world and being able to talk about it. It's activism.

In this, his second solo show, he takes over gallery owner Françoise Besson's “Maison” as part of the 17th Lyon Biennial of Contemporary Art, which invites artists to make places, their histories, their stories and their social characteristics, resonate. And this is precisely the central axis of Vincent Guillermin's work. If Michel Foucault defines heterotopias as the physical localization of utopia, concrete spaces that house the imaginary, Vincent Guillermin defines his works as a representation of his utopia. “I don't put blinkers on the world. I'm aware of our society and its limits, its actions, its poetry and its violence. My space is not devoid of the societal aspect in which I live. I'm not marginal, I'm part of the world. I need a primordial space to imagine, and this quest, necessary to my practice, has driven me to conquer it in order to make it physically real”.

Françoise Besson's house : “I feel at home in the space Françoise proposes: the house, her life, her family life, which she will erase for the duration of an installation to turn it into a space for dialogue. The place is full of stories, even legends. It fascinates me, it's powerful. The territoriality of a space has always been strong. By this I mean that what makes up a place, its forms, its rituals, what it exudes, gives an important value to the sensations or emotions we feel. I took over this space to transform it into an agora and to leave a part of my identity in it. In my studio, as in the spaces I think about, my utopia is sovereign. “It's all a question of spaces
