Through her films and installations, made jointly with specialists from various disciplines, Lucy McRae considers the future of human evolution at a time of advances in technology and science. In her fiction documentary, Institute of Isolation, she explores how the mind and body might be conditioned by new set of possible existences. In particular, she looks at whether isolation, or extreme experience, could be used to increase human resilience. In her search for alternative methods, she moves through a series of sensory chambers, examining the psychoacoustics of silence in an anechoic chamber and trying out a microgravity trainer. Blending science fiction and hard science, her film examines new bodily forms of resistance.
