In a country like Brazil, where individuals from diverse cultures and histories coexist, what does identity really mean? Led by choreographer Alejandro Ahmed, Grupo Cena 11 responds: identity is the encounter with otherness — especially the otherness we carry within ourselves.
Few things are more dangerous to define than a people. Rejecting toxic fantasies of purity, Grupo Cena 11 paints a vivid, contrasting portrait of Brazil. Eu não sou só eu em mim — the title of this new creation — translates as “I am not only myself.”
Embracing a boldly punk aesthetic, the piece explores the multiplicity and ever-shifting fluidity of identities that resist being pinned down. Reflecting who we are — “tapestries woven from experiences, memories, and ever-changing ideas,” as the performance itself states — the stage becomes a space of joyful coexistence between dancing bodies, spoken or projected texts, AI-generated videos, and a deliberately anarchic choreography blending a wide range of styles.
Otherness — cultural or technological — is not a battlefield, but a playground for encounter and exploration.
