"Take a Video Camera and Travel the World" presents three video works by Lithuanian artists in November in Lyon, Pont-en-Royans and Corbas, as part of the Season of Lithuania in France 2024. This program is part of the Ciconia Ciconia project, managed by Studio Ganek and LIAA Vilnius.
This program focuses on the Baltic Way of 1989. Highlighting contemporary Lithuanian artists, these films bear witness to the independence and liberation of Lithuanians under the old regime, and present archives and testimonies that are still relevant today. They reflect the artists’ current state of mind, dialoguing between ongoing geopolitical crises and flashbacks to a still recent past. "Take a Video Camera and Travel the World", declares Skirmantas Valiulis - a Lithuanian photographer and historian - underlining the impulse of Lithuanian filmmakers to document their post-independence environment, to experiment and to discover the world.
This program presents three video works by Dainius Liškevičius, Emilija Škarnulytė, Darius Žiūrades, members of the Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artists' Association (LIAA), who all delve into different fields of research and explore specific contexts of their present.
All films will be screened in Lyon in November, and accompanied by a conversation with program curators Danutė Gambickaitė and Lina Rukevičiūtė: more information to come at studioganek.com
