Clemens Hollerer Six 2024

In September 2024 Clemens Hollerer will present the first set of works of the brand-new ‘Six Series’. Derived from the basic hexagonal structure of his main office light, the artist recently started to integrate this common, solid shape in his artistic practice. The office - headquarter and base of his studio – symbolically stands for the center of his ideas and creations. It is illuminated by a thin, self-designed lighting system, carefully embedded in the given architecture of a renovated, former cowshed. The hexagon, known from honeycomb cells and frequently used in architecture and interior design, represents a seemingly perfect geometry. The artists’ greatest influences stem from 1960s American Minimal Art. In this art movement, repetition and seriality were two powerful tools used to convey a particular aesthetic and create a meditative experience for the viewer. Clemens Hollerer started experimenting with hexagons by exchanging the sides of the polygon with random found objects. Strolling through his environments, both urban and rural, he picks up and collects things that inspire him in shape and overall appearance. For his exhibition in Lyon, the Austrian artist will solely arrive with a bag of strings, tapes and wires. In an intuitive process of transformation, he will furthermore connect the objects, that influence him along the way in the streets and neighborhoods of the city with prefabricated aluminium hexagons. The future assemblages will either stimulate or disturb each other as well as the visitors. Hollerer furthermore plans to create some smaller versions of the ‘Six Series’ to be presented at ALF.
