La Taille de mon âme Gallery invites Réjean Peytavin for a second solo show. In this abundant exhibition, the Franco-Swiss artist presents a body of artwork centered around the vase. Réjean Peytavin offers you the opportunity to discover numerous ceramics, prints, drawings, and performances.

What is striking in the work of Réjean Peytavin is the recurrence of the principle of the vase. Perhaps because it constitutes the oldest object of human industry and accompanies the history of existence? In ceramology, a “vase” is a generic term which designates any container which is used to move material. However, to create a vase, you also have to move material by using your body to model the shape. It is also about centering the material, without which nothing holds. You must therefore be centered yourself to center. It’s a search for balance.

In The Art of Inquiry: Practical Knowledge and Social Sciences (2019), Aline Caillet considers the artist as “a new researcher”. It defines “an art of inquiry” based on practice and questions the disciplinary compartmentalization between human sciences and social sciences. It thus highlights the possible exchanges between scientific research and artistic practices. This approach seems to apply particularly well to the collaborative methodology implemented by Réjean Peytavin over the years, which relentlessly questions the circulation of knowledge and forms through ceramics.
