Born 1985 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia,
where he lives and works.
Made with a variety of materials, Manifesto: the Language and the City consists of lit and wooden advertising signs that used to hang in the streets of Riyadh. Abdullah Al Othman collected and assembled them to create a portrait of Saudi Arabia’s capital, condensed from its typographic, visual and architectural cultures. He sees it as an artistic manifesto of the city, revealing its identity through the physical language of its inhabitants. Through these colourful lit symbols, he summons the collective memory of those who help to write Riyadh’s history.
