Chafa Ghaddar’s frescoes explore the paradoxes of a medium that is both vulnerable and longlasting. While developing her artisanal savoir- faire, she experiments extensively with age-old techniques and natural and traditional materials. By folding these canvases and arranging them on the floor, the artist introduces new tensions between painting and sculpture, figuration and abstraction. Ghaddar’s creations, produced after a long process of soaking up the exhibition venues, initiate reflections on the fragmentation of time and space. Echoing ancient stones and frescoes, they reveal a myriad of narratives, through the superposition of plaster and fabric.
