manifesto of fragility – A World of Endless Promise

Nina Beier’s installations confront objects, that are the result of global systems of power and trade, with their representations in various historical and geographical contexts. In the abandoned chalet-restaurant in Tête d’Or Park, the presence of asbestos – invisible fibres that poison the air – is made palpable by clusters of plant, animal and mineral fibres. Extracted by the building- and textiles industries from disparate sources such as camels, rocks, shrubs and worms, the fibers spill from the cornucopia-like architecture of different sized petticoats. Inaccessible to the public, the installation comes together in a diorama of hierarchies that tests how value is both constructed and undone.
