manifesto of fragility – A World of Endless Promise

Venue
Born 1977 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he lives and works.
Sited deep in nature, Muhannad Shono’s installations chart alternative narrative routes. After the Fall, in the middle of Tête d’Or Park, invents a new mythology. “As Eden burned, a tree of knowledge tumbled from the heavens and came to rest upon the world. River and lake could not quench it, so we sat by its embers and imagined what would grow.” The installation, made from black-stained palm leaves and reclaimed black sand, explores imaginary realms that arose from cycles of destruction (burns) and creation (shoots). Like some unknown black void, it opens the way to a different world of infinite potential.
